Toward accessible bioinformatic tools for analyzing residue coevolution and sequence-fitness relationships in Fluc family proteins

Fluc proteins exhibit internal repeat symmetry, which results from structurally similar domain association or gene duplication, a pivotal mechanism for the evolution of distinct Fluc channels. Here, computational tools were developed for assessing membrane protein orientation bias in prokaryotic Fluc homologs and quantifying mutational tolerance in Fluc residues using EVcouplings for a dual-topology Fluc channel.
